I don't really know much about this strange band that goes by the name of Verdunkeln. but I can tell you one thing: it's a mysterious and damned good German act!

Writing all the words in German only adds to the mystery, not really understanding what this is all about although the horned beast emerging from the river and rain on the back of the booklet is pointing towards a Black Metal direction. Verdunklen have composed six mesmerizing pieces of music bathing in a great atmosphere filled with mystery, intensity and darkness. Even if the structure and parts appear to be simple and repetitive, nothing recorded here is slightly boring, redundant and even the lengthy tracks (7-8 minutes) don't even seem to last that long. This is even more true for the two longest lasting pleasures (clocking in at 15 and 17 minutes), namely "Im Zwiespalt" and "Der Herrscher." Distorted riffs, pounding/detonating drums and bass duo, sickly wicked rasps and haunted clean guitar arpeggios and leads will leave a mental imprint in your mind and that echoing clean guitar work WILL be haunting you! Spacey keys, water and thunder samplings are only there to emphasize the twisted ambiance of this somewhat avant-gardist opus of Black Metal arts.

"Einblick in den Qualefall" is a must for those looking for freshly weird Black Metal with a great atmosphere.
