That cover art looks familiar to me. I think it was on another of my CDs...but I believe it was on a Gothic album, whereas Arcana Coelestia is a totally different story! The concept behind Ubi Secreta Colunt is from the writing "Inferno" by August Strindberg. He is said to be living close to madness and tormented by visions and the prophecies of E.Swedenborg. He went on to pursue his work on alchemy. Experimental Funeral Doom Black Metal are the words chosen by their label, once again a spot on description of this strange Italian duo. Here, spacey keys, clean echoing guitar work, distorted tremolo picking, discrete drum beating the usually slow pace, and the haunted/clean rasp voices drive the listener in an insane and psychedelic maze. The production is pretty good but a bit raw at times in the more furious/Black Metal moments while the drum could have used a bit more punch here and there. In the end, it's the result that counts and I think the guys came in with a solid work that involves beauty, darkness and pushing the never ending boundaries of the Black Metal arts. I like all four songs, for they all have a little something in them. The nice texture of spacey keys and clean arpeggios in the intro of "Cult of Solitude" and "Arcane Knowledge Revealed Pt.I"; more clean arpeggios and vocals can be heard on "Arcane Knowledge Pt.2" and the great/slow and crushing mode of "Enigma Epitaph". A pretty safe bet for the Funeral Doom / Black Metal fan. |
