A man I have never known to produce a dire product, America's legendary metal wailer Rob Rock's fourth solo excursion Garden of Chaos is easily as enjoyable as his previous outings, if not even better. Admittedly, not much has changed in the Rock household, besides the songs found on Garden of Chaos are catchier than anything he has done before, and perhaps a little heavier in the guitar barrage, making tracks like the powerful title cut, "Savior's Call" and the Maiden-esque ass-kicker "Metal Breed" fabulous additions to his already overflowing musical arsenal. Rob's velvet voice is as dynamic as ever, soaring high one minute and scowling with style the next. The melodies really stick out this time too; "Only a Matter of Time" being one of the most addictive tracks his career has to offer thus far. Famed Narnia axe-slinger Carl-Johan Grimmark does a superb job at ripping up leads and blazing harmonies across the fretboard, and as ever, the production is stronger than a quadruple whiskey served in a paperweight. While it might not be as notable as his upcoming Fires of Babylon project, Garden of Chaos is still a quality record in its own right, and if uplifting melodic Power Metal in the Edguy, Firewind, and Silent Force mould is your bag, this is an absolute winner. |
