Italian underground label Aural Music with its cult sub label Code666 are the ones to count on when comes time for originality and high quality. Think of releases from Wormfood, Mechanical Poet, Thee Maldoror Kollective and their latest "hit" from Negura Bunget. Their previous album N Crugu Bradulvi (2002) was a great opus of Transylvanian Black Metal so I was really expecting this new one, but I was blown away beyond my expectations! Excellent/awesome is perhaps quite suitable of what OM stands for. Negura Bunget have made a giant leap in the progression of their creativity and the maturity in their song writing. OM is where Black Metal moves back and forth, melting with highly orchestral keyboard patterns, often deeply submerged in intense darkness but not afraid to come out of it only to emerge into much calmer and ambient waters. Psychedelic and spacey moments as well as more traditional ones with classical instruments also take part in this outstanding, orchestral, mystical and cinematic progressive brilliant Black Metal opus. I can't list my favorites without referring you to the entire track list! Definitely one of my favorite albums of 2006. OM is subtle, intelligent, mature, sophisticated! That's what Transylvanian Black Metal art is all about. |
