Very few Progressive Metal acts are worth mentioning, or even deserved to be categorized as such nowadays since the majority of them have some Power Metal queen behind the mic, turning the genre into a ridicule imitation of what used to be a genuine and innovative musical genre. Dark Suns is one of the rare exceptions.

Dark Suns is reminiscent of vintage Genesis (with Peter Gabriel of course) in many aspects like in the vocals, atmosphere, flute and so on... as well as having a little something borrowed from Pain of Salvation. True that their bass player, Kristoffer Gildenlöw was recruited as session musician for this recording, but a certain influence can be felt. It is a real pleasure to listen to Grave Human Genuine because it is a real artistic creation. On the eight excellent compositions, mostly mid to mid fast in tempos, the emotional level keep on varying in intensity. One moment you have a calm and ambient passage, very Genesis-like, then you're spinning into a more dynamic and heavily crunchy environment, all of which wrapped in a very good sound production. The clean vocals are similar to Peter Gabriel and drummer/vocalist Nico Knappe makes use of special effects to create a new dimension in the music. On a few occasions, there are even harsh vocals matching the mood of the darkened passages. Acoustic guitars, clean arpeggios, flute, symphonic keyboards, melodic voices meet strong bass lines, punchy drums and great guitar playing in an intricate structure that can only be found in mature and intelligent songwriting.

Dark Suns is not just a dream on the theater for another drag queen to perform a so called Progressive Metal but a damn good act hailing from Germany.
