This Latvian band plays a genre that I've crossed paths with a few times in the past: "Death 'n' Roll". The recipe is simple: Take some catchy rock 'n' roll, metalize it, and had some Death-ish vocals. This is exactly what Optimistic Views is. The songs here vary a little, with some basic mellow rock 'n' roll-ish melodies, to a more rocking, upbeat and catchy style where one cannot help but think of a few old rock 'n' roll acts. Of course, the guitars have a more metallic, distorted and raw edge, and the sound is heavier, but the basic melodies are unmistakably rock 'n' roll. The vocals are quite close to what most Melodic Death Metal bands use, sometimes a little harsher in style. I can't say this has really stuck in my head after it was over, but it's fun while it lasts. |
