What sucks about Nocternity is that they're big on EPs and splits, not so much on full length albums! I found this in mp3 format a few months ago and have yet to find a real copy - it doesn't help that it's limited to 500 copies. Harps of the Ancient Temples is atmosphere, atmosphere, and more atmosphere. This is almost devoid of vocals, and when you can hear some, they are so low in the mix that you can barely make them out - great abysmal effect there. I loved the atmosphere on En Oria, and this is just as expertly done - very dark, somewhat monotone but in no way "dull", with discreet, often barely perceptible drumming, low, grinding continuous guitars not unlike some of the material on En Oria, and keyboards that add a mix of melancholy and "suspense"-like vibe to it all. That's pretty much what you get for the whole 11+ minutes. A very dark release, unfortunately too short, but which makes me hope for some good stuff if Nocternity ever decide to grace us with a third full length album. |
