Review

Whenever I hear about a band like Bergraven, who has just released an album called Dödsvisioner, I get interested. With all the hype about it, I was even more curious to hear it, to find out what if it was justified. Damn it! It's true! This disc is just great!

Brainchild of Swedish composer Pär, who plays all the instruments except the drums, which are handled by Perra, Bergraven goes as far as writing lyrics in German, just to mess our mind up some more! Doom and Black Metal are two of my favorite genres for their mood, intensity and those dark emotions. When you combine both styles in the same musical structure, the result can only be awesome, but wait, it's more than that! Actually, what you have on Dödsvisioner are eight compositions of Doom/Black Metal that is not only melodic and crushing, but is also very intense, sick, twisted and a little proggy on the side, all of which accomplished with few keyboards/electronics, but with a lot of guts! I really enjoyed the clean arpeggios and rifting, reminiscent of Azrael, in memorable songs like "ONdkall", "Dew Svarta Angstens Essens", as well as on my overall favorite composition, "Ekot Av Bikt". Here, calmer / melodic/ ambient passages meet the juicy/crushing guitar work, in a somewhat nightmarish somber decor. Only good music from beginning to end. A friend of mine advised me to listen to this album with the lights on...
