Homselvareg is another unknown underground Italian Black Metal act, and I had the chance to discover them with this album. A self-titled debut that also includes, as a bonus, their three tracks demo. As a true kvlt type of band, not much information is to be found about them. As for the style of their music, Homselvareg is a somewhat different sounding Black Metal. They have a blend of rumbling bass, pummeling drums and distorted guitars, creating a bit of a noisy basic soundtrack. Even if the sound production is good, it gives the work an overall rough edge, but in the end the result is still pretty melodic. This band doesn't fall into redundancy by keeping the same tempo or intensity. The compositions that I found the more enjoyable were the ones that also involved that particular sound of acoustic electric guitar. Two of the instrumentals are actually composed on this instrument. They are: the opening track "Prologue: Il Canto Della Foresta" and the excellent "Capitolo V: Agonia" (my favorite composition). Two wonderful musical pieces blessed by these clean tonalities. You will also find those tonalities mixing melodically into the more muscular structure of "Capitolo II: HomSelvareg", "Capitolo IV: Fuga Del Selvaggio" and "Capitolo VI: La Morte". The demo songs are a bit of a turn off for me since their style tends to be more of the old school type. All in all, Homselvareg is another nice Black Metal release from Italy. |
