Yet another Grave album. This band has been a stalwart of the Swedish scene for decades and still has never achieved the notoriety of bands like Entombed or Dismember. I'm not trying to say that Dominion VIII is a bad album, because it isn't. But it's not really exciting either. Grave play exactly what you would expect, which is in itself no bad thing. But overall this album comes across as derivative rather than old-school. This has all the expected heaviness and brutality you would expect, with some good bludgeoning riffage and urgent roaring vocals. Just be advised that when it's over you won't remember a thing about it. Entertaining but hardly essential. |
