I see this being called 'Doom/Death' quite a bit, which patently ridiculous. Coffins are a Japanese band who play a decidedly Swedish style of Death Metal. They aren't fast by any stretch, but they aren't Doom either. This is their third album, and it's pretty good, if not stellar. Coffins have a cool, grindy guitar sound, and they churn out some good riffs, but there's just not anything really that great going on here. Fans of old-school Swedish Death will find this album worthwhile, but it is neither original enough to stand out, nor good enough to succeed despite its generic nature. Decent. |
