Well this is some serious underground black shit. Sacrilegious Impalement are a Finnish band dedicated to waving high the torch of old-school second wave Scandinavian Black Metal. This is pretty much a distillation of sounds Darkthrone and Mayhem bashed out sixteen years ago, but as the pure evil pleasure oozing from this will attest — it is still worth doing if you do it right. There is not a damned thing on this disc that I have not heard at least 50 times before, but I don't give a rat's ass, because this rules anyway. SI remember that Black Metal is not about keyboards, or female vocals, or experimental anything — it is about boiling hatred down until it becomes a black sludge that sticks to your speakers. Raw, slashing Black Metal that breaks no molds and takes no prisoners. |
