This is the debut album for Mitochondrion, who are obviously competing for the Gayest Band Name Prize. I mean, seriously, what the fuck is that supposed to be? What's next? Organelle? Ribosome? Endoplasmic Reticulum? Fuck. This is chaotic Death/Black/Whatever music that just kind of flails around without doing anything. There doesn't seem to be a direction here, just a lot of blasting and screams and half-assed deathgrunts. I hate to be hard on indie bands, as this is on their dime, but I just don't think Mitochondrion are ready for the big time. They have nothing really to say, and they cannot overcome that by how well they do it. This isn't incompetently played or anything, but it is directionless and annoying in the extreme. |
