I know Imagika get a lot of good press, but I just don't think this album — or this band — is all that great. Imagika play what is called "Heavy Thrash" or "Power Thrash" because they use chugging, Thrash-style riffs but also add lots of melody and some clean vocals. The idea is solid, but the songwriting is strictly mediocre. Despite a lot of heaviness and enjoyable riffs, Imagika never put together any really good songs, or in fact anything memorable at all. I listen to this album and it just goes by in a blur, without anything to hang on to. Sometimes the vocals are good, but sometimes they veer off into this awful metalcore yap that sucks mightily. This isn't a terrible album, but it's not really compelling either. |
