My major problem with 'best-of' albums is always the widely varying recording qualities. When you combine songs from a dozen different albums, you will get a variance of production, songwriting, and musicianship that makes the whole thing darn near impossible to listen to. That's why this double-disc 'best-of' from Vader is so cool: it's not just a pile of tracks thrown together and remastered, but a complete re-recording of a wide selection from the band's extensive back catalog.

Now this is Vader, so there's not a huge difference in songwriting from old to new, and the consistent recording and playing makes this pretty much just a huge dose of Vader. It's not a concept album, so you can take one disc at a time and not miss anything. Disc One is a bit better than Disc Two, but the quality is high throughout. Bottom line: this is an hour and a half of blistering Death Metal from one of the longest-running bands in the business. If you want to catch up on Vader, or just need an intro to the band, you could do far worse than this.
