This is an 80's relic band, who released an EP like 19 years ago and are finally getting a full-length album out, though Rebirth is a bit short for an album just the same. Their vintage status explains the name, which is so self-consciously 'metal' it borders on self-parody. On the one hand, this has some good, crunchy riffs and that definite old-school vibe (no shock, as it seems these songs were mostly or entirely written back in the day.) The recording job is adequate, and sounds vintage without being muffled. The guitar work is solid, and there are some good songs on here, with only "Chemical Warfare" being really annoyingly bad. Most of this disc is solid but unremarkable, and a lot of it sounds dated, rather than classic. That's a fine distinction, but there it is. This is a pretty good disc of 80's metal, but it never really catches fire. |
