Some high-octane Black/Thrash from Belgium here. The best quick description I can come up with for these guys would be "Dark Funeral meets Desaster". Ultra-speedy blasting Black Metal forms the backbone of the music here, but it has that aggressive, hateful edge of German bands such as Desaster and Witchburner that kind of slows down this speedfest, giving it some much needed attitude - without this, Triumphator would probably just sound like a barrage of out of control warp speed Black Metal. In that sense it's a bit monotonous overall - not all that much variety is to be found here, but somehow it works anyway - it's always a pleasure to press Play on this one and just leave it on for several repeats, and it doesn't get tiring. Despite the album being very fast overall, there are just enough mid-paced, thrashy passages that are diverse enough to keep the interest up. And the vocals have something to do with it - some thrash-influenced rasps that piece this monster together with the kind of atmosphere found with the aforementioned bands. This kicks ass, plain and simple, and will probably try to bite you if you reach for the Stop button. |
