I'm only reviewing this third album by Dagoba because it is sure to get its ass kissed all over certain febrile corners of the net, and I want to make sure nobody who likes actual metal is fooled by that sort of bullshit. Let us be clear: this is a fraudulent and artistically worthless album. Dagoba draw on Fear Factory, Pantera, Machine Head and similar 'modern' abominations to create a sound that's pretty much Mastodon with fruity keys wanked all over it. There are no real riffs on this album, just dumb-chunk groove with vocals that alternate a weak hardcore-styled shout and an even worse clean style. This is heavy, and has some not-unlistenable melodies, but it is exactly the kind of stupid, unchallenging shit that gives entire genres a bad name. When some Hollywood ass-felcher wants some 'heavy metal' in a movie, this is the kind of mentally bereft shit that gets the nod. An album that every real metalhead should avoid like a mouthful of diseased goat semen. Phagh. |
