Original Sin are a Chinese band, which means they could probably get in trouble for recording this in their home country. That said, I wish this was better than it is. Anybody can be in a Black Metal band in the US — hell in Scandinavia it's practically respectable, but in China - as in most Asian nations — not so much. Anyway, this is very much influenced by the old school of the second wave, and Mayhem and Burzum are the major influences here. Original Sin have a nice, buzzing, spitting guitar sound, and they churn out some really good riffs on here, especially when they slow down a little, as on "Be Disgusted With The City". They lose some points for using a load of vocal effects — if you can't sound necro unassisted, then get some other job, please — but they do go with the sometimes Xasthur-like depressive mood. This is a decent BM album, but towards the end it gets repetitive, and a good guitar sound alone cannot sail you past all evils. This has bright spots, but you are ready for it to be over long before it is. Worth a look though. |
