This is a debut disc by this Norwegian band who are obviously really into Immortal. Bloodsworn is made up of a bunch of guys from other Norwegian bands you have sorta heard of, but thankfully here they went off the 'tr00' rails and made a solid album. This disc is made up of surprisingly catchy, chunky riffing that is much more trad metal than typical BM tremolo. It gives a definite Immortal feel to the album, which is all good in my opinion, though this is nothing so crass as a clone band. The songs are speedy but not mindlessly so, and they slow down here or there for some more crushing passages. The production is a bit muted, and the guitar tone needs a bit more bite, and I can't say I love the vocal effects all over the place, but for these slight flaws, Bloodsworn have made an album I keep listening to: visceral, pissed-off, and relentlessly satanic, this one managed to be old-school and still sound pretty fresh. Definitely worth a look. |
