At last!!! Two years after the very good Hardworlder, Slough Feg deliver what I consider one of the best albums of their career. Ape Uprising marks the return of pure unaltered metal as all the elements that make this band so cool are here. Starting with the deep voice of Mike Scalzi: he is just as good as his previous works so if you loved him before, this record won't change your mind. The soaring guitar solos: this band has always made extremely cool leads that stand out from other bands. The rhythm session is as great as ever, giving the songs the proper punch and texture.

All of that is great, but the true highlight for me in Ape Uprising is the songs themselves. The record starts with "The Hunchback of Notre Doom" and is quite possibly the slowest song that this band has ever made; a true example of how to make great Doom Metal. Then we get a great faster song in "Overborn" but it only serves as a prelude to the absolute gem that is the epic title track. From there the album just keeps gaining momentum and it doesn't stop until its premature end. This record has something for everyone to fall in love with and before you know it you'll be listening to the thing again and again.

I just love this band; since their self-titled debut they've delivered nothing but great Heavy Metal and Ape Uprising is nothing but an instant classic. The only negative is that it is so short, but I would say the same thing if the record lasted 20 hours.
