Killers' sophomore effort followed one year after their debut masterpiece "...Fils de la haine". This album is not as raw and "in your face" as their debut, introducing a couple of more emotional numbers such as the excellent "L'assassin", a semi-ballad that is arguably the best song on the album, but sure is the most intense. Another "more relax" song is "Délire de mort", this one is a ballad with a somewhat depressing mood. The other songs are rawer, faster numbers more in the vein of the first album. The obligatory (well, two albums in a row anyway) metal anthem opens the album: "Heavy metal kids" is a bit on the cheesy side but sounds pretty good nonetheless. Once again the band treats us with a very good instrumental, "Parabellum", pretty fast song where the guitars are blazing. Another song that stands out is the album closer "A la santé de Bon", a tribute to Bon Scott (it loosely translates to "Cheers to Bon") that, while not sounding like an AC/DC song, has a kind of party rock vibe to it, a good tribute in my opinion, and a very catchy song as well. In case this wasn't obvious from the song titles, the band sings in French, the vocalist having a voice that I could probably best describe as AC/DC-like, maybe a bit like Tom Keifer from Cinderellla. "Danger de vie" is not as good as the debut of this excellent French heavy metal band but it is not very far behind either (close enough that I wouldn't be surprised if some people preferred it over the debut.) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. |
