I don't think this legendary band needs an introduction, do they? :) I've been spinning this album quite a bit lately, after owning it for a long time and never giving it the attention it deserves. The album is a little mix of heavy metal and material more at the border of hard rock and heavy metal, the latter being almost radio-friendly - well, it could get some airplay on some hard rock radios. There's even a ballad, "Absent Friends", which could very well be a Bryan Adams song (back in his better days) - that's a compliment by the way (in case there are some heathens reading this.)

This album presents a band in top shape, with very competent playing and a very mature songwriting. The major highlight of this album are the excellent guitar melodies, extremely well done and catchy as hell. This is just the kind of album that I can spin over and over without getting tired of it. Once again an album that could well have been released in the mid-80s and still wouldn't sound outdated today. Save for a couple of exceptions, most songs here are very good to excellent. "Cut Out The Disease" doesn't sit too well with me, it has a little whiny overtone. While the ballad "Absent Friends" is very good, it sounds a little out of place on this album (and the fact that it follows "Cut Out The Diseases" doesn't help its case. ;)) The vocals are a little bit varied and are pretty much irreproachable, fitting the music pretty much perfectly and not going too much into the high notes. There isn't much else I can say but to tell you to buy this. :)
