I often enjoy split CDs quite a bit, allowing us to discover a variety of good bands that normally have something in common in their style. The thing with De Vermiis Mysteriis is that it feels as if it was a regular album with tracks from one band. I mean, there are some differences, but overall I have the feeling that I'm listening to the same act.

I knew opening act Sigma Draconis for having just reviewed their work. The first track, "Mortifero Vulnere Ictus" is a decent song with good distorted guitars and wicked rasps. The second song is much faster, still some moderate tempos, as well as good black ‘n' roll riffs are included. Track # 3, from The True Endless - "The Hate of the Mysanthrope Pt.1", is built around those much appreciated moderate tempos and crunchy guitar playing. "Haunting the Christians" (cool title) is more on the rawer edge. Then comes my favorite composition from Blodulv on position #5, " The Searing Spite". This is where mid paces and great crushing guitar work take on a rather juicy and darker edge. As for the last two tracks from Malignace, they are very similar in their speed and sound.

Overall not that bad, but this split CD fails to meet my expectations.
