Three years after Goddess of Desire released Conquerors Divine, they followed up with an album just as good in Awaken Pagan Gods. As was the case with their previous record, this album is an example of pure Heavy Metal, complete with the barbaric themes and evil overtones. There are many similarities between this album and its predecessor; normally I would have complained about a lack of progression but the result here is so awesome that I just don't care. If you have heard these guys before you'll know what to expect. For those who haven't Goddess of Desire sound like Ironsword or maybe Twisted Tower Dire to an extent.

Moving on, the songs on this album kick major ass. They are a little more riff-based than the previous album but still contain enough catchiness and memorable moments. Tracks like: "Nothing's Free" (total Motorhead worship), "Holy War" and the great title track have more heaviness and metal in them than most bands can achieve in a lifetime. Even in the not-so-good songs like "Bloodstained Sight" the band is awesome. Also like on the previous record, these guys display a very good level of musicianship, perfectly complementing their songwriting capabilities.

Bottom line, Awaken Pagan Gods is a monster of an album and a worthy follow up. If you like Conquerors Divine, there is no reason not to like this. With their barbarian, evil and somewhat ridiculous lyrics and overtones, Goddess of Desire have managed to do another great bare-bones Heavy Metal album. Sadly, (at the time of this review) they are no longer active which is a shame as this band deserves to have a long and successful career. Highly recommended.
