Death and Thrash: a marriage made in Hell. On Moorgate's EP, Denial of Reality, the band mixes the two styles pretty effectively, alternating between hyper-blast beats/ warp speed guitars and more mid-paced old school Thrash riffing/slower, almost groove, interludes. Generally, Moorgate rely more heavily on the Death style and they really don't bring anything new to the party. They are competent, if not above average, musicians and the songs are well written. The changes in tempo keep things from getting too boring (or worse, irritating, like some adherents to the "all fast, all the time" style can be.) There aren't any standout tracks but no real duds, either. This is likely a safe purchase for fans of thrashy Death Metal. Personally, as a Power Metal fan, I'd like to hear more innovation or variety in the delivery. A solid start for Moorgate, nonetheless. |
