Released pretty much at the same time as the latest studio album "Destroyer of Worlds", "Katalog" is a compilation containing one song from each for their 10 studio albums (the 11th track on this CD is just a 25 second outro). The CD opens up on "Lake Of Fire" from the album "Destroyer of Worlds", but after that the 9 remaining songs are in chronological order, from the "Bathory" album up to "Blood On Ice". I guess putting this song first is a way of promoting the latest release. Well, let me just say that "Lake Of Fire" is nothing like early Bathory, a pretty quiet song actually! Not bad. Quite a sharp contrast with the second song, "Armageddon" off the "Bathory" album!

Considering that over the course of their 10 studio releases, Bathory have changed style quite often (and not always to everyone's liking), this compilation gives a little taste of each style for the prospective buyer looking into getting some Bathory material but who wants to avoid the styles that he may not like. So this is a pretty good sampler. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who has all the studio albums since there's no unreleased material on this. Of course if you need to own everything with the Bathory name on it...
