Autumnal Reaper have been around for like 20 years, but I have never heard of them before this, despite that this is their third album. Anyway, this is very much in the tradition of old-school Swedish-styled Death Metal. The guitar sound and riff-style is very similar to old Dismember albums, and even the vocals sound quite similar. This is at the more melodic end of the pool, but not to the point of sounding like Gothenburg or anything. This is aggressive, heavy, and the playing is tight and sometimes inventive. I find this solid and enjoyable, even if it doesn't really stand above the crowd. This band has chops, but their sound is so imitative of other bands that it renders their music more generic than it has to be. What I'm saying is that this is a good album, but Autumnal Reaper could produce a much better album if they weren't so slavishly derivative.
