This is extreme Black metal orthodoxy and no mistake. Horncrowned crank it up and blast away at pretty much full speed nonstop. They seem to have two speeds: blast and hyperblast. If their riffs were better I wouldn't mind that, but their production is too clean and shiny to sound underground, and their guitar tone is too weak to let the riffs get away with being this dull. Like other full-blast-ahead bands like Marduk, there is too much of a good thing, and after three songs you are ready for them to do something – anything else besides just whale away. Horncrowned are not bad, but they are so derivative and generic they border on parody. If second-wave blast-o-rama is your thing, then Horncrowned won't fail you. If you want anything besides speed and screaming, then this is the wrong band. |
