This is a project by a couple of Australian guys who are veterans of acts with names like Nocturnal Graves. This isn't a proper album, being a bare 21 minutes long. It is really an EP released to show what the band can do. Hunters Moon are all about Bathory, and not the Viking-era, but the old Bathory of The Return and Under the Sign of the Black Mark. You get mid-paced marching riffs, a hellacious guitar sound, and some dry croaking vocals. This is enjoyable and protean stuff, very primitive and raw but still with a solid recording job. There is certainly nothing new about this, but when this kind of thing is done as viciously and as well as it is here, then I don't really care about innovation. Solid riffing and raw attitude make this a subterranean gem. |
