Blackhorned Saga is a four piece band from Poland. These guys are obviously in a crusade against Christianity; which is okay with me. We can hear that they are talented musicians and the band as a whole is pretty tight. Their musical direction is a mixture of death and black metal. To be more precise, Blackhorned Saga is a technical death/black metal act. Normally, I don't mind too much when black metal gets some death crunch, but in this case the technical edge is not what I personally find enjoyable. They do have many of those furious fast parts with tremolo picking leads, distorted riffs and deep rasps. Then they also included crunchier mid-fast paces, and on track #5, "Doom", they even added acoustic arpeggios in that instrumental piece. Other moments are riff-driven, while good black and roll riffing is resorted to. After a while though, I started to get bored with their usual, technical and somewhat melodic tunes. Lathspell might appeal more to the technical death metal freaks who enjoy a black metal ideology. |
