This is the third album from Celestia, a band that gets reverential press but that I think are just ok. This album suffers from the same drawbacks as the last one, without the sprawling, epic feel. Celestia still play slow, moody BM with a tinge of the depressive, but this time the guitars are weaker, the songwriting less involving, and the vocals are still bland. Vocalist Noktu has a plain, gargly rasp that never varies in pitch or intensity, and over the whole disc he becomes really boring to listen to. The riffs are ok, but the guitar sound is weak and has no bite. Celestia want to be a big, epic band. But with unfocused songs and a running time barely over 30 minutes, this comes off as pretty half-assed. |
