After you have done reviews for a while you start to run into a slight problem. The problem is simply coming up with something to say about an album that is actually pretty good but doesn’t differentiate itself from others in the same genre. This is the problem I have run into with this album from Heimdall entitled "The Almighty". Heimdall is a power metal band with a few pure metal influences. Now the problem I mentioned earlier comes into play. The vocals are good, the guitars are good, the songs themselves are even pretty good but this is all I can really say about it. There is nothing here that will make this album stand out from any of the "good" power metal releases out there. I feel a little bad when you consider that these guys probably busted their ass to write this and to get it recorded to just have a failed musician with access to the Internet write a review that says all your hard work is pretty average as far as the genre is concerned. I guess that saying that opinions are like assholes, everyone has one is pretty true :). I am sure there will be other reviews that hail this album but as for me it didn’t really catch my attention. Overall I would say this is a decent enough power metal album that you may want to listen to for yourself to decide if you actually want to throw down some hard earned money. |
