This is interesting. Haiduk play a very riff-oriented style of metal that combines both the hooky approach of melodeath with the uptuned tremolo attack of BM. The vocals here are sparse and mixed low, so the center stage is the cool guitar grooves. Yes, I just said grooves, because Luke Milojica – the only guy in this band – has managed to make an album of riffs that groove without sounding like 'groove metal' at all. He has a real ear for riffs, and despite the grim aesthetic, this album is a headbanging, fist-pumping good time. A lot of songs on here don't sound like anything but just good old Heavy Metal, and that's fine with me. Haiduk have an interesting sound and I will be curious to see what comes next.
