Eternal Reign have turned out three albums in the last eight years, but this is the first time I have heard their work. I expected this to be pretty typical German Power Metal, but I didn't expect it to be as competent as it is. This is very typical of the German school, roughly similar to bands like Messiah's Kiss or Primal Fear. Eternal Reign crank out some heavy, crunchy riffs and some catchy choruses. The playing and songwriting are solid if not spectacular, though the vocals of frontman Dirk Stuhmer are a bit uneven. Overall this is an entertaining album, and the band shows real promise. Another album this solid, with more memorable choruses and stronger vocals from Stuhmer could be a real monster. Worth a look. |
