This is another rerelease of an old album. Merciless Death formed in '87, thrashed through the late 80s, then finally split up around 1994 after producing just this one album. They have apparently reformed recently, which may explain this reissue of their one and only full-length disc. I'd like to say this is awesome, but really this is totally generic Death/Thrash from the period, only it sounds like it was recorded in 1988 instead of 1993. The recording is bad, the songs just kind of plod along, and nothing really interesting ever, ever happens. Even with a better production, this would have nowhere near the energy or riffage to stand up on its own. There's a reason the metal scene took a dive in the 90s, and a lot of it was bands like this one clogging up the landscape: bands with nothing to say and no reason to exist. |
