Finally a Gothic band who actually sound Gothic. Heaven Grey are a Latvian band reformed after several years of breakup and the deaths of two former members. The guitar work on here is really quite good, with some haunting melodies and clean, sharp playing. Vocals are a kind of overwrought intonation, very Gothic-sounding, but they do get old after a short while, as they don't provide much presence or variation. The problem with this CD is that the songs all sound terribly alike, to the point where this really sounds like one long song. It's a pretty decent song, but even after 3 songs the lack of dynamic begins to wear. Heaven Grey are not trendy, or poppy, but they just are not that entertaining either. Solid but not exciting. |
