I've been into Witchery for a good 10 years now, and I always found it too bad that the band is neglected in favor of The Haunted. Every time one has to wonder "Will we get another Witchery album?" It's been four years since the ill-received Don't Fear the Reaper and now the band is back with Witchkrieg. Vocalist Toxine is gone, replaced by Legion (formerly with Marduk.) I really liked Toxine's vocals which I found were part of Witchery's signature sound so I was a bit apprehensive at first. Well, Legion does a pretty damn good job here with some very harsh, visceral thrashing vocals that go hand in hand with the sharp guitar work.

I've always found Witchery to be a fun band to listen to – kind of on the extreme edge of old school Thrash but always delivering a good dose of catchy songs. Witchkrieg fits that bill. Songs such as "From Dead to Worse", "Devil Rides Out" and "Witch Hunter" for example are guaranteed to stick in your head right on the first listen. Fist-pumping, fast-paced Thrash with great hooks and rapid-fire style songs that just slaughter everything in their path is what Witchkrieg is about. With only two songs clocking in at over four minutes with a total running time of just over 34 minutes, this is unfortunately over before you know it, but at the same time it just feels like the right length. Press "Play" again and have fun all over again. Wank-free, fun and heavy Thrash is what this album is all about. Let's hope we won't have to wait as long for the next one.
