Censure hail from Quebec City, and, like most of the Quebec metal scene, play some brutal death metal that should make fans of the genre very happy (or grim or whatever they like to feel like... :)) The vocalist uses low growls but, unlike many other growlers, I can actually stand his vocals for a few listens in a row. The music is fast and brutal, one can hardly go faster without going into the grindcore stuff. Some parts remind me of Immolation and Incantation, so fans of these two bands may want to check this out - but there's a number of influences at work here... Despite the expected chaos of such a release, there are still some pretty clean guitar solos that make their mark here, much to my surprise. Most of the solos I hear in this type of music usually are so damn fast that one can wonder why they even bothered. Censure left some room for more "artistic" solos, thankfully. There are 3 songs on this first release, one of the titles is in English and the other two are in French, but all the lyrics are in French (or I should say French-Canadian, as there's a lot of slang in there! :))... But with this kind of vocals, does it really matter that much? :) If Censure play their cards right, I think we'll be hearing a full-length release from them sooner rather than later. Recommended. |
