Fourth album for this band from Scotland. Scotland? Seriously? A Black Metal band from fucking Scotland? Yes. Thankfully there is not a bagpipe to be heard on this, as it is pure feral BM killing with no other bullshit. This is a flat-out assault with blasting programmed drums, processed screams, and a heavy, visceral guitar sound. The production is modern and sharp, calling to mind other new wave BM acts like Watain, and the sound creates excitement and grabs your attention. The songwriting is a bit flat, as too often the compositions just repeat without going anywhere and become a bit tiresome. The heavily processed and filtered nature of the vocals is also rather grating, making this sound a bit too modern for its own good. Still, a decent recording. |
