This is the second album from Polish band Thoth, who have the distinction of claiming Graveland's Darken as a band member. You might think that means this will sound like Graveland, but it doesn't. Thoth play a highly melodic and gloomy brand of Black Metal with classy, sweeping riffs and a shit-ton of atmosphere. If you like melodic tremolo riffing, then you will love this, as it eschews almost any other approach whatsoever, but when the riffs are this tasty I am not about to complain. The vocals are extremely low in the mix, and are just kind of a background instrument themselves. Moody, gloomy, and hateful in an intelligent way, this is definitely an album to check out. |
