I wasn't expecting too much from this, and on first impressions I felt my expectations matched that of the quality of the music. I stuck this on the back burner while I attended to some of the other victims on my review list, and upon returning to this album I headbanged from start to finish. Rancor are a Spanish band that have been active for over 10 years. Release the Rancor is their debut album, and you can certainly tell the band are experienced at their game, delivering a wicked good thrashing which is far more fun than it should be. Release the Rancor really isn't anything too spectacular, but it doesn't need to be. The album is perfect for 45 minutes of headbanging fun. Tracks such as "Rancor", "Zombie War!", and "Soul Chamber" have me flailing about like a madman. There really isn't much more I need to say – quality riffs, pissed-off vocals, awesome drum work and I guess they sound a bit like Exodus in places. Overall this won't be of much interest if you don't like thrash, however thrashers should certainly check this band out. Good old-fashioned thrashing fun. |
