I have to say Germany's Next Death Metal is one damn pompous album title; I also have to say that hard rock and death metal don't gel (bar Swansong). It's almost infuriating, because this band has the potential to be fairly awesome. They can play, and some of their riffs really cook but I just can't get away with the whole down-tuned AC/DC with death metal vocals thing. Now, I'm sure some people will find enjoyment in Debauchery, I mean this is their seventh full-length to date so someone has to be buying their records, but I just can't get past it. This isn't for me, and rubbing salt in the wound are the various cries of "motherfucker!" in certain tracks. It's redundant, cheap aggression. This album has really rubbed me the wrong way, I noticed on Metal-Archives that they have Warhammer 40,000 in their lyrical themes. Here's an idea: ditch the hard rock crap and just fucking thrash out, sing about Tyranids, do a Space Hulk concept album, enough with the hard rock stuff it wasn't cool when Six Feet Under were doing it and it never will be. Tracks like "Animal Holocaust" and "Death Will Entertain" are actually really cool, but there's always an AC/DC moment or a "motherfucker" right around the corner to spoil my fun. However, and in the interest of fairness, if you like this sort of thing go ahead and check these guys out. For the style this is good, but I'd be telling a lie if I said I'd listen to this one again. |
