This is the third album from this portentously-named US Black Metal band. I rather liked their last one, Denuntiatus Cinis, despite it being too overwrought and too long. This one is not too dissimilar, but it is shorter, more focused, and has a ton more atmosphere courtesy of a more spacious and less modern production job. This disc has a great, echoey classic BM sound to it, with raw guitars and a lot of gloomy feel to it. The compositions are complex but more oriented, and the slower, moodier passages are more memorable and affecting. Overall, an improvement over the last album and a worthwhile BM disc. |
