This is the debut disc from an unsigned Irish Melodeath band. I have to say this is competently done, drawing on the classic sounds of Dark Tranquillity and old Arch Enemy - more on the DK, as this is pretty keyboard heavy. The melodies are sharp, the playing is tight, and the production job is solid. True to their origins, Valediction have dry, tedious vocals and pedantic vocal lines to suck some of the liveliness out of their music. I don't know why this has to be a melodeath staple, it really ruins a lot of good music. This is certainly a pro sounding release, I just don't think the world needs more bands like this. Then again, if we have to have more bands, they could at least be as good as this. |
