This is a surprisingly entertaining EP for slightly thrashy melodeath that avoids cliché by dint of being energetic and heavy as fuck. The vocals are mostly deeper than the usual boring melodeath rasp, and there is refreshingly no trace of metalcore or anything especially trendy in evidence. The songs are all visceral, aggressive, and well-produced, and the EP goes by too quickly. Despite a boring name, Nation Despair have cranked out a worthy disc here, and I am keen to see what they could do with a full-length. |
