Artania are a Dimmu Borgir-esque band from Russia working their debut album, somewhat grandly entitled Night Shall Crown Ye. I am always a bit whiffy about 'symphonic' bands, especially ostensible Black Metal bands, but the presence of some keys does not really hamper this album, it's the unexciting songwriting that does that.
Artania have some good riffs, but they seem content to repeat them way more than they should, and the songwriting as a whole is flat, with no tension or real dramatic build. The vocals are no help, as they are one-note and exceedingly monotonous, hacking repeatedly over the songs without any interest at all. This isn't really offensive, but it's not really good either. Artania show some promise, but their songs are just too stodgy and uninteresting for a few good riffs to carry them through.
