The title of this work translates to something like Nonplaces - Or the Ghost-Journeys of the Rune-Shamans, which is pretty much the kind of title I thought it should have. This band has been around for 6-7 years, and this is actually their fourth album. Big, epic, sprawling, and odd. This is a sometimes powerful album of Pagan-styled Black Metal which has refreshingly no trace of folk in it. Powerful, sometimes epic riffs churn and smash forth at what is usually a mid-paced march, only speeding up here and there. The vocals are a pretty featureless rasp, and sometimes become a bit annoying, but the music is varied, sharp, and generally kickass. If you want fierce Pagan Black Metal that doesn't wallow in keyboards or polka-melodies, then this should definitely be on your list. |
