Sixth album for this long-running German band, who have never made much of a wide impression on the metal scene. Sadly, I don't see that this album is likely to change that, as it is decent but not spectacular. Outrage are all about early proto-thrash in the vein of old Slayer and especially Sodom, but they are just not as awesome as their influences. Their guitar sound is weak, yet the production is too clean to grab any kind of underground vibe. The riffs are ok but extremely derivative, and the band never really gets off their collective ass and thrashes. Most of these songs are at the same kind of marching mid-pace, without the face-ripping speed you want from this kind of music. Stripped-down Blackened Thrash needs a feral, snarling energy and a lot of speed to really work, and this has neither. |
