Cataleptic have been around for about a decade, but true to their Doom roots, they are just now getting a full-length released. I expected this to be more imitative of bands like Katatonia and Novembers Doom, but this is much more in line with Euro/Russian Doom/Death bands. I wish I could say this is groundbreaking in some way, but it is really terribly standard for the genre. It is good, however, with solid riff-work and tense, gloomy songwriting. I can't say Cataleptic are doing anything different, but they do what they do well. |
